What documents and ID do we require?

Proof of identity:

  • Passport, or
  • Two forms of other ID (see below)

Proof of income:

  • Last 3 payslips, or
  • Employer reference signed by someone in senior position from employer e.g. manager or human resources, or
  • If self employed, last 3 years summary accounts (or as many as been trading if less)

Under the Immigration Act 2014, we must obtain and retain a legible copy of certain documents to establish whether you have a right to rent. If you can provide a passport, that is the only ID we require. If not, we will require at least two forms of ID as described below. If you are employed we will require copies of your last 3 payslips and if self employed, the last 3 years summary accounts (or if trading less than 3 years, as many as you can provide). Just provide what you can if you don’t have everything available right now. We will ask if we need anything extra.

Passport

If you can supply a passport, this is the only ID we require.

 

Please copy the pages as described below:

If the document is a passport or other travel document (which is not in the form of a card) please copy:

  • any page containing the holder’s personal details including nationality;
  • any page containing the holder’s photograph;
  • any page containing the holder’s signature;
  • any page containing the date of expiry; and
  • any page containing information indicating the holder has an entitlement to enter or remain in the UK.

If the document is a travel document in the form of a card, the whole of the card (front and back)

ID other than passport
If you don’t have a passport available, we will require any 2 of the following documents:

  • A full birth certificate issued in the United Kingdom which includes the name of at least one of the holder’s parents.
  • A full adoption certificate issued in the United Kingdom which includes the name of at least one of the holder’s adoptive parents.
  • A birth certificate issued in the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man or Ireland.
  • An adoption certificate issued in the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man or Ireland.
  • A current licence to drive a motor vehicle granted under Part 3 of the Road Traffic Act 1988(2) (to include the photocard licence in respect of licences issued on or after 1st July 1998) or Part 2 of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1981(3) (to include the photocard licence).
  • An identity card issued by any of Her Majesty’s forces.
  • A letter issued by a government department or local authority no longer than 3 months before the date on which it is presented, confirming the holder’s name and the earliest known contact between that government department or local authority and the holder and signed by a named official stating their name and professional address.
  • A letter, issued no longer than 3 months before the date on which it is presented, confirming the holder’s name and signed by a British passport holder, stating how long the British passport holder has known the holder, the relationship between them, and giving the British passport holder’s name, address and passport number.
  • A letter issued by a person who employs the holder issued no longer than 3 months before the date on which it is presented, which indicates the holder’s name and confirming their status as an employee and employee reference number and states the employer’s name and business address.
  • A letter issued by a police force in the United Kingdom no longer than 3 months before the date on which it is presented, confirming that the holder has been the victim of a crime and personal documents have been stolen, and stating the crime reference number.
  • A document issued by one of Her Majesty’s forces or the Secretary of State confirming that the holder is or has been a serving member of that force.
  • A letter issued by Her Majesty’s Prison Service, the Scottish Prison Service or the Northern Ireland Prison Service confirming that holder has been released from the custody of that service and confirming their name and date of birth .
  • A letter issued within 6 months of discharge by an officer of the National Offender Management Service in England and Wales, an officer of a local authority in Scotland who is a responsible officer for the purposes of the Criminal Procedure (Scotland) Act 1995(1) or an officer of the Probation Board for Northern Ireland confirming the holder’s name and date of birth.
  • A current firearm or shot gun certificate granted by a chief officer of police under Part II of the Firearms Act 1968(4), a firearm certificate issued by the Chief Constable under article 5 of the Firearms (Northern Ireland) Order 2004(5) or a current authority issued by the Secretary of State or Scottish Ministers under section 5 of that Firearms Act 1968 or the Secretary of State under article 45 of the Firearms (Northern Ireland) Order 2004.
  • A certificate issued no longer than 3 months before the date on which it is presented, by the Disclosure and Barring Service under Part V of the Police Act 1997(6), the Scottish Ministers under Part 2 of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007(7) or the Secretary of State under Part V of the Police Act 1997 in relation to the holder.
  • A document issued no longer than 3 months before the date on which it is presented, by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs, the Department of Work and Pensions, the Northern Ireland Department for Social Development or a local authority confirming that the holder is in receipt of a benefit listed in section 115(1) or (2) of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999(8).

Proof of income
If you are employed please upload any one of the following:

  • Last 3 payslips, or
  • Reference and confirmation of employment from and signed by an appropriate person from your employer (e.g. manager, human resources etc.)

If you are self employed please upload the following:

  • Last 3 years summary accounts
  • If trading less than 3 years, as many as you have been trading summary accounts
